Raja Maguttcher (translator)

I looove reading books and I'm a bit of a grammar and spelling nerd - hence my utter realistic email alias "Bücherwurm". Romantasy, fantasy and (dark) romance novels have a special place in my heart, and I would love to support your project in Germany! :)

Raja maguttcher

Hi, I am R, a 23-year-old student from Germany. As a little girl, I used to dream up fantasy worlds and chase magical adventures in them with my sister - nowadays, we play DnD and try not to lose that spark of magic in everyday life.

I am currently studying German, English and Philosophy to become a teacher at a quaint university in Germany, with red brick walls and huge apple trees in the courtyard (yes, it does feel like living in a novel sometimes). My studies surround me with language and literature on a daily basis and equip me with field-specific skills. I do have excellent access to library resources for language research. This provides me with tools, skills and knowledge I can put to good use as a translator.

Since my studies are quite time-flexible, I have room for early reading on the side. I enjoy supporting authors with detailed feedback on characters, grammar, spelling, logic, phrasing and anything else that may arise. Seeing a story evolve makes me proud, I would love to expand that joy by working as a translator.

The German market for romance and romantasy novels (think Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros or ACOTAR by Sarah J. Maas) is currently booming. However, many readers prefer not to read in English, due to language barriers or simply because they enjoy the German language for its richness and nuance. Your books could gain a whole new audience here - and I would love to help you achieve that!

What's in it for me is spending even more time doing what I love: diving into great lovestories and magical realms, gaining experience in the book industry and applying my language skills. I aim to create German translations that truly capture the tone, emotion and vibe of the original English, using adequate, expressive and nuanced German phrasing.

I would be thrilled to get the opportunity to collaborate! As I am just starting out in this field, I do not expect a (high) salary. I am open to working independently or as part of a team, whether as the primary translator or in an editing/proofreading role. With all my passion for great storytelling, I promise to pour my heart in bringing to life the German version of your book!

Short version:

What I offer:

- translations of novels or book series (genres: fantasy, (dark) romance, romantasy) into a German version with sensitive phrasing that stays true to your voice and catches the vibe!

- I familiarize myself thoroughly with your world and themes (some vibes I particularly enjoy: great emotions, (dark) academia, reverse harem, soulmates, one & only, spice, intrigue, magic, vampires, witches, otherworldly creatures, dragons, slow burn, enemies to lovers, ... - I'm flexible, draw me in!)

- I translate a sample (a few pages, trickier scenes are welcome) in advance, to showcase my style and language sensitivity!

- flexible scheduling to meet your timeline (Welcome, spontaneous requests!)

What I need from you:

- a description of your expectations (the vibe you want your story to catch the reader with, what is especially important to you, any no-gos) - I want to capture the soul of your book!

- a fair chance to dive in, do your story justice and grow along the way

I hope, together we can expand a great story!!!
